How to Get Free Products to Review (and What You Owe)
Learn how to get free products to review: build a profile that gets picked, follow FTC disclosure rules and write honest reviews without sounding like an ad.

Somewhere between the "You've been selected!" email and the "Posting instructions" email, most people notice the product isn't quite free. It comes with homework.
That's not a scam. It's the deal: you give a brand your attention and an honest opinion, and it sends you something to try. This guide covers how to get free products to review, how programs pick people, and what you owe back. I built it from the programs' own rules and the FTC's disclosure guidance, not from round-ups.
Quick answer: Join a few review programs such as BzzAgent and Influenster, complete every profile honestly, answer invites quickly, then write specific, honest reviews that say the product was free. Selection isn't guaranteed and products take weeks to arrive. Skip the review, or fake the enthusiasm, and programs can stop inviting you.

What does it take? Time and what you need up front
Time: roughly half an hour to set up two or three profiles, then a few minutes a week watching for invites. Every product you win adds the time to try it and write a review.
You'll need: a real mailing address, an inbox you check, and the patience to write a few specific sentences for each product.
The catch: nothing is guaranteed. BzzAgent's own guide says samples are limited, that you aren't selected unless you get a confirmation email, and that a sample should arrive one to five weeks after approval. At the time of writing, its FAQ also mentions a new community launch, so confirm that campaigns are currently running before you count on it.
How to get free products to review, step by step
Pick two or three programs, not ten. Start with a testing community such as BzzAgent (open to residents of the US, Canada and the UK) and an app-based one such as Influenster. Add a sample site from our guide to free samples by mail if you want small items sooner.
Fill in every profile field, truthfully. BzzAgent says it matches people using profile data, survey answers and location. Influenster says the more it knows about you, the faster it can match you to products.
Build a track record. Influenster asks you to review products you've already tried. Write a handful of honest ones so the matching has something to work with.
Answer invites fast, and only for things you'd actually use. BzzAgent says campaigns can fill within hours or days. No invite within three or four days usually means that one wasn't for you.
Use the product before you write a word. BzzAgent won't let you post a review until you've received and used the sample. Give it a fair run.
Write a specific, honest review and say it was free. The next two sections cover how.
Finish every task on time. BzzAgent says members who skip activities aren't invited to future campaigns. PINCHme's terms ask for a feedback survey within 30 days of receiving a sample and allow suspension if you don't.
How do review programs choose who gets picked?
Mostly by match, not merit. Programs weigh your profile answers, application surveys and location to decide who sees an invite. Brands want honest opinions and reach, so limited slots go to people likely to use the product and follow through.
That makes a thin or inconsistent profile the biggest self-inflicted wound. Sign-up screens differ, but this is the kind of detail they ask for up front.

What do you owe in return?
Attention and an opinion. That's the whole price, and it's worth knowing the exact terms before you apply.
A review or task: reviews, and sometimes surveys. Social Nature even says reviews earn priority access to its free product trials.
Honesty: good or bad. BzzAgent says it doesn't script what you say and still wants your feedback on a product you didn't like.
Disclosure: say the product was free whenever you talk about it publicly.
Personal use: PINCHme's terms limit samples to personal, non-commercial use and forbid sharing outside your household. BzzAgent's rules bar selling or trading what's in the box.
The catch: none of these programs pay you for reviews. BzzAgent says members aren't paid for them, so don't confuse this with a side income.
How do you disclose a free product?
The FTC treats free products as a "material connection" to the brand. Its influencer disclosure guidance says to disclose even if you think your opinion is unbiased, and that it's your responsibility, not the brand's.
Put it where people will see it: next to the claim, not on your profile page, behind a "more" click or buried in a pile of hashtags.
Use plain words: the FTC says "Thanks to Acme brand for the free product" is often enough, and so are "ad" and "sponsored".
Skip vague shorthand: "sp", "collab" or a stand-alone "thanks" don't count.
Disclose in video itself, not just in the caption, and repeat it during live streams.
Remember: a product you bought yourself needs no disclosure, and the FTC says US law can apply to posts made from abroad if they reach US shoppers.
My pick: put it in the first line, in your own words.
I got this free through a review program. Here's my honest take after two weeks.
Why does fake enthusiasm backfire?
Because it breaks the one rule everyone agrees on. The FTC says you can't describe experience with a product you haven't tried, and you can't call a product terrific if you thought it was terrible.
The rules also moved against fake praise. The FTC's rule on reviews and testimonials, effective October 21, 2024, bans fake reviews, including AI-generated ones from people with no real experience. It also stops businesses from paying or rewarding reviews conditioned on a positive or negative opinion. Programs that follow it have no reason to want gushing copy from you.
BzzAgent puts the incentive plainly: honest reviews keep you in good standing, even lukewarm ones. A generic rave doesn't help the next shopper and doesn't help you.
A review that doesn't read like an ad usually has:
how long you used it and how, in one sentence;
one thing it did well and one thing that bugged you;
who it suits and who should skip it;
an answer to "What would I want to know before buying this?", which is BzzAgent's own test.

What are the common mistakes?
Running multiple accounts. BzzAgent says fake profiles get your account revoked, and PINCHme's terms ban duplicates too.
Using a throwaway social profile created only to apply. BzzAgent specifically calls this out.
Sharing or using application links from freebie sites. BzzAgent says invites come by email only.
Reviewing before you've used the product. It shows.
Hiding the freebie. That's the one that attracts regulators, not just readers.
Applying for everything. You'll get products you won't use and reviews you won't write.
Paying to join. Legitimate programs here are free to join. PINCHme says no credit card is needed, and BzzAgent says participation is free.
What if it doesn't work?
Not picked: normal. With limited samples, BzzAgent says no confirmation email means you weren't selected for that campaign. Fill in your profile properly and wait for the next one.
Product never arrives: BzzAgent asks you to email support if it's been longer than four weeks. Don't pay anyone a "release fee". Our guide to fake free offers explains why.
The product disagrees with you: don't use it. PINCHme's terms put ingredient checking on you, so read the label first. Then say so, honestly, in your review.
You're dropped: reread the program's rules, contact support and resist opening a new account, because that's usually the rule that gets people banned.
My take and next step
If you want to know how to get free products to review without turning into a walking ad, treat it as a trade you can walk away from. Join two programs tonight, finish both profiles, and write one honest review of something you already own. That's the whole warm-up.
My pick: a campaign community like BzzAgent if you like structure, because the rules are published and clear. Choose Influenster if you'd rather browse by app and review as you go, and a sample site if you'd rather skip long reviews. Skip this if you want free stuff with no homework. Then try our free samples and products hub instead.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need lots of followers to get free products to review?
Not for the programs covered here. BzzAgent's published selection criteria are your profile, your survey answers and where you live, not follower counts. A complete, honest profile and a record of finishing tasks matters more than audience size.
Can I keep the product after I review it?
Generally yes, that's the point of free products to test and keep. But it's for personal use. PINCHme's terms limit samples to personal, non-commercial use, and BzzAgent bars selling or trading what arrives. Reselling is also a quick way to lose your account.
Should I ever pay to join a review program?
No. The programs named here are free to join, and PINCHme says no credit card is needed. Be wary of any "membership" that charges to reveal products or promises guaranteed boxes. That's a different business from a review program and often a trap.
Can I join from outside the US?
It depends on the program. BzzAgent says it's open to residents of the US, Canada and the UK, and PINCHme's terms say its materials are aimed at people in the United States. Check the eligibility line on each official page before you sign up.
